| Irwin’s Bakery |
Irwin’s Bakery was founded in 1912 by the grandfather of the existing joint managing directors, Brian and Niall Irwin. Originally Mr Irwin set up a bakery in Portadown Co Armagh to service the local area with freshly baked bread products. But with the huge success that the bakery achieved, W D Irwin & Sons Ltd moved to Northern Ireland’s only indigenous plant bakery outside of Portadown in the early 1990’s.The bakery now specialises in the production of batch bread, the brand Nutty Krust has become the Number 1 selling batch Bread in Northern Ireland as well as having facilities to make traditional Irish breads such as soda and potato farls as well as wheaten. Irwin’s Bakery also produces the Rankin Selection – a range of traditional Irish Breads that have been inspired by Ireland’s TV celebrity chef Paul Rankin has become the market leader in Irish Bread sales on the mainland of the United Kingdom. The Rankin Selection Range consisted of 4 products on launch – Irish Brown Soda Bread, Irish Soda Farls, Irish Potato Farls and Irish Stoneground Wheaten. But with popularity increasing and the demand to re-fresh the range and introduce new lines, Traditional Barmbrack, Irish Fruit Soda and Cinnamon & Raisin were launched to market. This totalled 9 products in the Rankin Selection Range which has become very popular since the introduction of the range in Great Britain. In 2006, Irwin’s acquired Howell House which bakes Howell’s Handmade Jammy Joeys, to create an opening for Irwin’s in the cake and biscuit market. The company has gone through an extensive re-brand and is now showing huge growth in a sector where products are distinctly Northern Irish. Throughout all the success that Irwin’s have enjoyed since the company was founded in 1912, Irwin’s Bakery’s brand values remain the same – family. Irwin’s Bakery pride themselves on being a local company and providing fresh, quality goods for families. To find out more about Irwin’s and the products, please visit www.irwinsbakery.com |
