No need to conform

Kettlewell Colours work closely each season with image consultants House of Colour to create a palette for t-shirts and tops that are perfect for the season or a perennial favourite. Kettlewell Colour's co-founder Melissa Nicholson says: "We feel passionate about colour and when the season's fashion colour is grey, we understand that not everyone wants to conform.

Wearing shades that suit you will make you look healthy and feel good even if the current fashion trends tell you otherwise." Continuing shades include kingfisher, always a huge bestseller, sea green, cocoa, scarlet, poppy and emerald.

For autumn, Kettlewell Colours are introducing four new colours - purple, forest green, tan and silver grey - bringing the total number offered for autumn to 58 across four ranges.

Ispirato's designer Miriam Poorsalehi told Woman's World: "No single colour is entirely 'off limits' - you might not look great in a mustard but radiant in pastel yellow.

The fashion industry predicts the next season's colours in many different ways. Inspiration can come from the influence of a film, music, cultural events, fabric trade shows or trends that follow particular decades.

The high street often produces micro trends that appear in the stores every couple of months. This way they can cater to the buying patterns of the consumer.

"Should women of a certain age dismiss certain colours? The question should be more about how the individual looks and feels. After all, clothes should be worn by the wearer and not the other way round."

Cosmetics à la carte

Getting your make-up right can be a minefield, so take some tips from the co-founder of Cosmetics à la Carte, Lynne Sanders: "Trends for autumn-winter are smoky eyes, defined eyebrows and neutral lips. Autumn make-up will hinge on perfect skin and subtle cheek tones that are fresh but not garish.

For Woman's World readers' age group, Bare Blush creamy Cheek Tint offers classic colours that contour the cheekbones without screaming 'hectic' or 'blue'. Our Rouge, Wine and Butterscotch colours are good winter staples. Or for a Blush Touch powder option you cannot beat Rose.

If eyeliner feels a little difficult or too definite, opt for Eye Velvet wands of colour, which are easy to blend with an age-proof formula."

And if you have a colour you just can't live without and it's been discontinued, Cosmetics ˆ la Carte can recreate it - obviously at a price (£175, repeats order £45). Provide a stub or sample of a discontinued or hard-to-find lipstick, powder or shadow and up to three matched options will be sent for you to test at home, then adjusted if needs be.

Gabriella Handbags

Inika

Resident Make Up Artist with Inika mineral cosmetics from Australia, Hana Sutherland, selected their best 'universal colours' for Woman's World. These include Pink Fetish or Peach Fetish eye shadows - applied over the lid, especially if skin is a little crepey, the colour will open up the eyes. She suggests swapping black eyeliner for chocolate, and using Inika's blusher in Kiss Kiss to define cheekbones without looking over-rosy. Finally Inika's vegan lipsticks keep lips soft and moist, and in Blossom adds colour without competing with eyes.
