Page 3 of 3 Cutty Sark restoration continuesThe 139-year-old Cutty Sark has been in dry dock at Greenwich Pier since 1954, her majestic structure of teak and iron standing as a tribute to London's maritime history.Contrary to some reports, the tea clipper was not actually destroyed by fire in May 2007: she was already under major restoration when the fire took place and much of the planking and masts had been taken away as part of the project. Nevertheless damage from the fire has meant more time and money is needed before restoration can be completed, and it is anticipated that the Cutty Sark will reopen in 2010. The O2 reincarnation of 'that Dome'The O2 opened in June 2007, reincarnated from the former Millennium Dome. Hosting music, sport and entertainment events, its centerpiece is the 20,000-capacity indoor arena. There's also a live music venue, state of the art exhibition space, cinema complex, plus bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. The O2 is an official venue for the 2012 Olympics, hosting the gymnastic and basketball events. Though outside the World Heritage Site boundaries of Maritime Greenwich, the O2 is easily accessed by the fast-speed catamarans that run from Greenwich Pier. In January 2009, the O2 is launching a new concert series called Monumental Classics, which aims to take the classical music experience to a new level. The first production, Carmina Burana, features over 250 performers including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, light projections and fireworks. This production is the first time the story behind the music of Carmina Burana has been acted out along with the music and promises to be a spectacle that will be completely new to British audiences.
